Don't you hate series 2 - Taking the (M)ass (R)apid (T)ransit

The 2nd list of the series.  Actually a lot of them is some what similar to the list in the Taking a Bus.  So if its not here, please refer to that post. :P

Here we go:

While taking a train (MRT) in Sillypore, I hate

1) Stupid annoucements that kept repeating itselves every 2 minutes. (can't they make it every 15mins?)
2) 6mins of waiting time for peak periods (I'm serious, kena a few times liao)
3) People who does not stick to the left hand or one side of the escalator to let others pass.
4) People who stands in front of the door before the trains come, blocking those who came out.
5) Crowded trains.
6) People who steps into the train and then stop moving, blocking the door and expecting people to move around him/her. (Especially the teenagers who does this)
7) People yaking on the phone loudly.
8) People playing their mp4 or PSP or Nintendo DX loudly with or without a headphone.
9) Parents that allows their kids to use the handrails as monkey bars or conducting an obstacle course in the train by running around,  jumping up and down on the seats and everywhere.
10) People who lean their whole body on those vertical hand rails during peak period.
11) People who sits in between seats (taking 2 seats) I really no idea why they do this, they like something sticking in their butt crack or ass hole I guess?  I tried it once (just to understand why they enjoy doing this) and its so uncomfortable...
12) Guys who open their legs WIDE open while seating (yes I know you have big balls but you don't need to flaunt them.)
13) People who seats at the staircases around the exits.
14) Stupid Credit card salesman/woman asking if you are interested in signing up their platinum card (if I can apply I won't be taking the bloody train la)
15) Phamplet Ladies/Guys at the entrance to the MRT (especially cityhall)
16) People with no sense of directions that comes out of the exit/entrance of the station and stops right in front of the escalator to check or talk to their companions while expecting the rest of the people to go around them... (Can't they move to one side to discuss????)
17) People who rushes to exit the train when the alarm starts beeping...(especially to those who don't even say "excuse me" and bumps into you.
18) Gantries that takes a long time to response your card (need fine tuning or maintenance)
19) Confusing signages that leads you to nowhere or get you dis-orientated.  (Especially the Dolbhy Gaut station)

And Finally...

20) Someone committing suicide by jumping off the track (No this is not a joke but a serious one).
I thought they started to put up barricades on certain stations but what about the rest??? I think they really need to do something about this asap.

Add on if you like

Don't you hate series 1 - Taking a public bus in Sillypore.

I once wrote a post on graciousness and recently I had this great idea of listing out the things I hate encountering in my everyday life of Sillypore..  Hate is quite a strong word,   I should use the word dislike but I find using the word hate has more oomph in it (apologies if my reasoning sounds silly but I am also part of this Sillypore anyways.. :P)

At first I wanted the list to appear in one post but I found out that its impossible to do that as the list keeps growing and growing... So I decided to break them down into categories but still, I need to further break them down to sub-categories... hahaha... seems like a lot of hate going on here :P

So without further delays.  Here is the first list of the series...

While taking a bus in Sillypore, I just hate :

1) Buses that are late, and I mean really late like around 20minutes which is all filled up to the brim and can only stop to let some people off.

2) Buses that are driving so fast that they just ignore you or stops 20-50m away from the bus-stop.
3) Buses who drives so slow that you prefer you should be in the driver seats.
4) People who always rush to the door (cutting queue) and then proceed to fumble for their bloody ez-link card while the rest are stuck. (what's rushing them anyway, can't they take out their card first if they want to board first) Vice versa, the same jokers who rushes to the exit before the bus stops and fumbles for their card when the door opens...
5) Passengers who are listening to their bloody MP3 players (or phones) and blasting them at volume 10 with their headphones on.  (hope they go deaf soon)
6)Even worse, passengers who plays  mp3s on their bloody Handphones WITHOUT a bloody headphone.  (Yes, I might like Lady Gaga but that doesn't mean you have the rights to force me to hear it!)
7)Passengers who yaks loudly on the phone, like he/she is afraid that the rest of the passengers are not aware he/she has a problem with his girlfriend or boyfriend.
8)Passengers who seems to get their foot stuck in the middle of the bus (epecially near the doorways) And normally these are teenagers who are not moving in.  They also seems to get stuck there for quite sometime until someone ask them to move it...
9)Passengers who leave their bags on the seats next to them.  And chatting away on the phone, ignoring the crowded bus and whole world staring on them.
10)Passengers who seats on the aisle seats and giving you a look when you ask to go into their precious empty window seat.  (I once sacartiscally asked a lady if she has an invisble friend sitting next to her when she gave this disdain look to an old uncle who wants to sit)
11)Passengers who immediately fell asleep when an old person or pregant lady or small childen board the bus.
12)Passengers (espcially kids) who thinks that the bus belongs to their parents, giving them the rights to shout and stomp around on the buses (especially on the upper decks of double deck buses)
13)Passengers who are so tired (and I'm not sure why they are so tired) that they start to nod their heads in their seat and lean against your body.  (But I do love it when they whacked their head on the front seat handles or on the window :D)
14)Male passengers who open their legs wide and shove their knees into the person seating beside them or blocking the aisle. Not sure why leh.. Maybe they got big balls or pricks that they need to show it off by opening their legs so wide. And funny thing is that they normally are not that tall or legs that long..
15)Bus "Captains" that are rude and drives like a lunatic.
16)Bus "Captains" that applies the brake like working out in the gym.  Causing ppl to fly off.
17)Bus "Captains" who drives with a lazy foot... letting go of the accelerator arubtly, causing a jerking motion, making you sick.
18)Buses that are actually suanas when you step into it and you are still force to pay the Air-con price of the ride while suffocating in it.
19)Buses that are so bloody cold in rainy weathers that you think you are in the wrong country.
20)Passengers who sneaks food into the bus and dine them like they are in a restaurant.
21)Buses that smells like a Smoking Room or Area when it arrives on the bus-bay in the interchange (seems like No Smoking only applies when it is moving,  drivers like to smoke on their buses when it stops)
22)Buses that took ages to come and it comes in multiples of 2 or 3s in a row and they are all empty....
23)Buses that are packed like sardines and yet the bus driver is still insisting the passengers to move in some more to let more to board.
24)Buses that have advertisments all over their windows that you can't figure out where the hell you are now.
25)Raining in the bus (I'm serious about this!)
26)Raining and flooding in the bus cum Suana in the bus.
There are more but I think these are the ones I really dislike.  Add on if you wish :P

Getting Lazy...and a bit nonchalant on the events here in Thailand

I just realise this is only the 4th post I did in May and its not that I am very busy with stuffs and had no time to write.  I have tons of things I want to write but I have to admit I am getting a bit lazy just logging on :P.  Most probably is the weather here in Thailand.  It's bloody hot, peaking 40 degree celcius in the afternoon.  The air you breathe is warm... :P and I just kept drinking cold water to prevent myself from dehydration (kena once before and its no fun).  At least its dry and hot.  Not like the humid weather in Singapore so I still prefer the weather here in Thailand.

I guess most of you have read about the events in Bangkok.  The violence, burning and fightings.  Seems like a mini war zone in the capital.  Over here in the north everything is peaceful (or on the face of it).  People here are tense and stressful from the events in Bangkok.  Curfews were strict and for the first time my stay here in Thailand,  the main street was totally empty on Friday night.  All shops were closed(including 7-11 stores) and even street food vendors closed early around 6pm.  Wife's friend who stays near the main road said it was scary as there were no cars except army and police vehicles patrolling the main road towards the Burma border.

This is actually worst then the coup in 2006. (at least that time the shops were still open) So the protest has ended and the violence seems to have stopped.  But the rift is definitely still there and widened even furthur.  So most probably this latest conflict will cause the movement to go underground.  Those hardcore red fanatics might return to their North and Northeast stronghold and plot even more extreme violence against the gahment.  The current gahment have tons of repairs to do.... not just on the shopping complexes and damages to public properties but to the people too.  This is the time to come up with more policies and roadmaps to show that you care for the poor in the reds too.  Not some bloody witch hunting on who is to blame.  I also do sincerely hope that new elections will convey in Novemver, if not, these fanatics would have every reasons to convince more people to join them in their violent discourse.  Which in turns, does not bode well for the future generations of Thailand.

Still, I am not too worried about these events in Thailand.  Things normally will fix itself, just that it takes time (even generations) to do so.  And I sincerely think that all these political turbulences actually helps Thailand to be a greater country.  Such failures and problems at least unfolds in front of your eyes to make Thai people accept and aware that there is a huge social problem within the current political system which needs to be fixed.  Unlike SG where the normal working class are still fearful against our "elite" gahment.

Just another day.

Just realised I have not written since 28th Feb and its already in the middle of March!! Time flies when you are busy and its good as I will be going back for a short trip this coming friday.

Its also a day to take note of as 14th March is the date where the Thaksin loyalist Red Clan is conducting another mass protest in BKK.

Some friends were a bit concerned I am going back during this period of time but I just have to assure them that it will be fine.  I'm a visitor and not a local.  Just don't joint any sides or say the wrong things and you shall be fine (I always believe in that logic)

So how will the day turn out for this protest?  Frankly, it really depends on who is the army listening too.  And for the time being, the current "elitist" gahment has an upper hand as they are able to mobilise the army.  This is true by looking at how the army response since the protest and coup in 2006. Army did nothing when yellow shirts are protesting and causing problem in 2006 pror to the coup

And in 2008 when the yellow shirts PAD were protesting against the newly elected gahment, the army did nothing at all to the 10,000 crowd that stormed the gahment house or airport.

And again in 2009 when the red shirt protested and started to amass and violence broke up.  The army came in to bail Abhisit out.

So just look what happen after the coup in 2006 and you can tell today will most probably be a failed attempt by the red shirt to overthrow the gahment.  The one who are holding the guns will always win the war.  ITs always the case in the entire human history.

I do hope nothing really bad will happen this few days but I doubt everything will end peacefully.  Something bad will surely happen to end this round of protest.

Most of them I have spoke to and most thailand newspaper say its bad thing for the country but for a longer run, I say its good in a certain point of view.  Why do I say that? :)  Because it at least serves as a sternful reminder to the current gahnment that the rural ppl are still too socially divided with the elites in bkk and they want their say.

The people from the northern, central and eastern regions are mostly poor rural folks which Thaksin took care of them when they were the most neglected.  Some may argue that they get paid if they come and attend the rallies.  Then a good question is why are they so easily "moved" to come and attend the rallies?  If their living standards and current situations are good.  They won't come and risk their lives for a few 1000Bahts...  And if they are greedy,  how come so many did turned up (latest news puts the figure above 80,000 before 14th March and its still increasing)

So how to solve all these problems?  Well I'm not a politician and not a Thai so I can't really say so.  I think one way is the gahment is to stop all these witch hunting on Thaksin.  Its just adding fuel to the fire and giving the exile a reason to throw his entire fortune to get himself out.  You have pushed that guy to a corner and since he can't move any more, he will be desperate to save himself.  Put yourself in his shoes.  If all your fortunes are going to be confiscated.  What will you do??

I see Strollers...

First of all, I wish to declare that I have nothing against strollers.  In fact, I have bought one myself even before my daughter was born (no thanks to my wife's constant bickering).  And sincerely, I only used it once or twice as my girl would never want to sit in it.... maybe Ah boy will be different.

Its actually good to have one if you are walking in the park or going some place which needs a lot of walking or moving around.  As it does have compartments for you to off load baby necessity items on it.  Such as diapers and milk bottles.  I sincerely think they should be an age limit to kids using a stroller.  And the reason I say this is because I get to see ridiculous situation of Singaporean parents taking their 6 or 7 year old kids in a stroller.  Pushing them around like nobody business... This is not healthy at all for the kids.  Can't they walk?

When I told some friends of my observations, they were a bit shocked and skeptic of what I say.  So I was lucky that day when I went to the airshow.  As there were tons of kids in different varieties and styles of strollers that I could not help myself and started taking photos of them.  I find them more interesting than the planes that were on display... So here are some of the highlights...

First we have the old classics!  I used to sit in one too until I was 3... Think my parents gave it to someone else once I could run... Wonder how old is that girl.... looks like 5 to me...

Next we have another varient of the old classic with the sun shades down.  Check out the happy kid in it!

Next we have the tray attached.  This allows the kids to eat or place their toys while their parents/guardian push them.

If you have twins or 2 kids.  We can have the double deckers!!! Looks so cool and that huge wheels...

And here is the newer strollers with removable bags that you could carry addtional stuff in it.. The seat is also foamed and cushion to give a more comfortable ride..

I won't be surprise if 3 years down the road the kid in the stroller will be the same size as his brothers.  We already live in a very comfortable environment and we are still pampering our next generations.. How are they going to serve the NS and defend our country?

And for the finale.  One of the most ridiculous scene I saw.

The kid and his family was on the same shuttle bus as I was and I actaully followed them to the showground to take this shot.  All the way, this boy was in the stroller!! Even from the bus which his parents or guardian lifted him down the bus.  And there's nothing wrong with him as I clearly saw him playing his little PSP on the bus.

I'm not sure what the parents were thinking.  Its just plain stupid and sad to see these kids being trapped in a stroller.... I know its tiring and tough to bring kids out for a trip (my own girl is hyper and I know!)  But that's also the fun part isn't it?
